Spanish 10-3Y Honours - 5 credits (for IB Students)

Recommend 60% in Language Arts 9

This is an introductory course for students with no previous experience in Spanish. This Pre-IB course sets the preparatory background for participation in the IB Spanish ab initio courses. This course will follow the spanish 10 program of studies and student grade will be based on the provincial curriculum, but students will be exposed to enriched material. This course is designed for those students entering the IB program in grade 11.

Spanish 10-3Y - 5 credits

This is an introductory course for those students with no previous experience in Spanish. This academic course focuses on all four skills necessary to communicate in a new language: speaking, writing, listening, and reading. Students will be experiencing the language from the foundation itself: pronouncing their first Spanish sounds, turning those sounds into words and then building their own phrases in a communicative way. Cultural knowledge of Spanish speaking countries is an important component; therefore, Mexico and Texas are the concentrated areas of study.

Spanish 10-6Y Honours - 5 credits (for IB Students)

Recommend 75% in Spanish 9

This Pre-AP/Pre-IB course sets the prepatory background for participation in the AP Spanish Language or the IB-Language B-Standard Level courses. This course will follow the Spanish 10-6Y program of studies and the student grade is based on the provincial curriculum, but students will be exposed to enriched material. This course is designed for students entering the AP or IB program in Grade 11.

This program of studies is intended for students who have completed Spanish 9 in junior high. Building on prior knowledge, vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading, and writing will be enhanced.

Spanish 20 Honours - 5 credits
Recommend 75% in Spanish 10

This accelerated version of Spanish 20 continues with preparation for the honours examination in Grade 12 through enriched themes and different techniques to provide extra exposure to listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing and representing. Students will work on projects enhancing the cultural knowledge of Spanish speaking countries.

In this course students continue to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to communicate in Spanish. Language structure and culture are explored through the themes Hobbies and Entertainment, Shopping, Health, Exercise and Safety, Daily Routines-Past and Present, and Vacations.

Spanish 30 Honours - 5 credits
Recommend 75% in Spanish 20

This accelerated version of Spanish 30 will cumulate with the honours examination. Students will study advanced topics through enriched themes and grammar study. Students may choose to write the AP or IB Spanish exam at the completion of this course

This is a continuation of Spanish language skill development through structural components and more advanced communication situations. Language structure and culture are explored through the themes Communications and Technology, World of Work, Arts and Literature, Current Events, The Environment. This higher level of language allows for more in depth look at the diversity of history and present-day issues in the Spanish-speaking world.
