German 10 • 5 credits

Recommend 60% in Language Arts 9

German 10 is an academic course which gives students an introduction to the German language and culture. Students will learn basic speaking and writing skills in order to communicate on themes such as self, hobbies, interests, food, family and school. Some aspects of everyday German culture will be presented. Enrolment in this course is a Recommend for those students interested in participating in a 3 month exchange to Germany during the Grade 11 year. Skills in memorization and daily review and practice are essential for success in this course.

German 20 • 5 credits

Successful completion of German 10

German 20 is an academic course which focuses on improving listening, speaking, reading and writing skills acquired in German 10. The themes studied in this course include: school life, friends and relationships, health and well-being, and travel.
Students will be able to communicate in basic German about themes studied and become familiar with geographical regions of Austria. They will also develop an interest and desire in continued language study and travel.

German 30 • 5 credits

Successful completion of German 20

German 30 is an academic course which offers more extensive grammar study, and advanced communication on themes such as house and home, fashion, future plans, occupations and fairy tales.
Students will significantly improve their comprehension skills and spontaneous speech. They will apply knowledge of structures to more advanced dialogue and written work. Students will also be made aware of German speaking Switzerland. It is the hope that at the end of this course, students will have an interest in continued language study and travel.
