French 10-3Y • 5 credits
Recommend 60% in Language Arts 9 This course is designed for students who have never studied French before high school or for those who have limited french experience upon entering high school. Basic vocabulary and grammar will be taught. Correct pronunciation and simple oral and written communication are stressed. French 10-9Y • 5 credits
Recommend Successful completion of French 9 This course is designed for students who have successfully completed French 9 in junior high school. Building on prior knowledge, vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading and writing will be enhanced. Some of the fields of experience are activities, shopping, vacations, fine arts and safety (optional). French 10-9Y Honours • 5 credits (for AP and IB students)
Recommend 75% in French 9 This pre-AP/pre-IB course sets the preparatory background for participation in the AP French Language or the IB – Language B – standard level courses. This course will follow the French 10-9Y Program of Studies and student grade is based solely on the provincial curriculum, but students will be exposed to enriched material. This course is designed for those students entering the AP or IB program in grade 11. French 20 • 5 credits
Recommend French 10 or 80% or better in Grade 9 French (students who have successfully completed the Beginning 3 level or who have already been introduced to the Intermediate 4 or 5 levels). Students will expand their skills in understanding, reading, speaking and writing French in contexts such as clubs and activities, senses and feelings, close friendships, shopping, fashion, outdoor activities and health. Upon completion of the course students will have been introduced to two past tenses and should master at least one. French 30 • 5 credits
Recommend French 20 or significant exposure to French courses in Elementary and Junior High School (Students whose French language skills are at the Intermediate 5 & 6 level). Students participate in a wide variety of reading, speaking, listening and writing activities on such topics as social life, the world of work, money, the media, advertising, conservation and the environment. Recommend French 30 This course is designed for Grade 10 or 11 students who wish to further develop their French language skills and have completed French 30 or equivalent in previous French study. French language and culture are studied and students continue to build on reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Students cover a variety of topics that relate to francophone culture and increase their abilities to use the language. French 31b • 5 credits French Honours
Recommend French 31A This course is a continuation of the topics and language skills that are covered in French 31A. It is a course intended for Grade 11 or 12 students who enjoy learning French and have a strong background in the language. Students build on previous knowledge and take part in discussions based francophone culture and issues. The material covered in this course is at a first-year university level and prepares students for the French B International Baccalaureate exam or the French Language Advanced Placement exam.
