American Sign Language 15 • 5 credits
Recommend 60% in Language Arts 9 This course introduces students to basic American Sign Language (ASL) its culture and to the Deaf community. It is intended for those students who are interested in learning beginning sign language. Students will be able to fingerspell the alphabet, develop a sign vocabulary base and will be able to engage in simple conversation. Students will learn to use culturally appropriate behaviors with the Deaf community. Skills in memorization and daily review and practice are essential for success in this course. The class will be conducted in ASL ad will be taught by a Deaf teacher. American Sign Language 25 • 5 credits
Successful completion of ASL 15 This course is an extension of ASL 15. Students will develop a more complex sign vocabulary and will become more proficient in ASL conversation. Students will talk about people and environment in a more abstract way than ASL 15. The course focuses on the development of language receptive and expressive skills. The class will be conducted in ASL and will be taught by a deaf teacher. American Sign Language 35 • 5 credits
Successful completion of ASL 25 This course is an extension of ASL 25. Students will develop a more complex sign vocabulary and will become more proficient in ASL conversation. Students will talk about the environment removed from the classroom. The course focuses on the develpment of language receptive and expressive skills. The class will be conducted in ASL and will be taught by a deaf teacher.
